we took a little trip down to destin a few weeks ago through steven’s work to celebrate the conclusion of a two year program he was in and finishing! we are so proud of him and his accomplishments. it’s a relief to see him officially on the other side of that program, and it’s always fun to see how much our cutey littles love getting to tag along on his work adventures! [last year’s chattanooga trip is still a much-talked about memory!!]
the only thing i somehow didn’t manage to snag a photo of was the kiddos’ favorite part of this place… the pool! it had this wrap around lazy river-esque portion, and one of those gradual entry areas which is so nice for little ones. we didn’t do much on the beach, as it wasn’t as convenient, and luca was adamant that he was not pro-sand… but the big two swam happily aaaall day with steven right outside our hotel doorstep while i mostly managed toddler life! at first i thought it potentially obnoxious to have a room right off a huge public pool full of many a-human, but it was actually so perfect to be able to go in and out with littles!!
i have to say, my favorite part of this stay miiiight have been the option for room service. 😉 haha. is that mom life, or what?? but seriously… you better believe i was callin’ up for meal delivery [+ WINE!], becauuuuuse…
unfortunately for moi, i slammed my finger in the car door while we were on our way down there for the trip! if you’re a mom, you probably get this… i was *exhausted* from the previous week and the school/house/pack/plan juggle, and naturally, i was thinking how i really needed a relaxing getaway. so! we were halfway there, stopping for lunch [after trying desperately to even find somewhere that was allowing people to dine-in], i turned back to the car to fetch my key, and as i turned to close the door, SLAM! my finger just didn’t get out of the way. i have primate-length arms, is perhaps why?
i definitely didn’t know your fingertip could cause pain throughout your whole arm, but wow!! as it got worse over the weekend, i tried to keep it elevated and from getting hit by anyone or anything, but steven said i just looked like i was trying to call a waiter for a drink. haha. anyway, i took more tylenol and ibuprofen in the week that followed than i have over the duration of my entire life [sorry, liver. sorry, kidneys.], and was so hopeful it would resolve by itself! but nope… the entire nail and skin around it ended up black and my whole fingertip remained swollen, and three weeks afterward, i had to go in and have my fingernail removed and cleaned out. i’m sparing the photo documentation of all that! and for now i’m *maybe* still saltier than the sea about that whole ordeal… but someday… when i get my fingernail back! i’m quiiiite sure it’ll be a more entertaining story!
anyway!! cheers to all the things that make us better, stronger people! how ’bout that! 🙂
