oooh, my my MY! dare i say that blackberry season is really the happiest season of all?! well… summertime is… for us, anyway!! i would also venture to say that we made our BEST cobblers yet after successfully picking our hearts out this year!!
truly… these are not typically the most glamorous moments of our lives, risking thorn pricks for juicy berries, coming away sweaty and eaten up by bugs. but glory, hallelujah! it sure is gratifying. and i’m extra thankful this year that a little tradition such as this one has remained something we could look forward to and enjoy, despite the strangest of times! my little cuties LOVE berry picking, and i can’t help but think that these are the life experiences they need more than anything. 🙂
and just so it’s properly on record… if i’m recalling correctly, i believe our trusty cobbler recipe goes something like this…
preheat to 350
heat a stick of salted butter in the pan til it’s bubbly.
mix up:
+ 1 cup self-rising flour
+ 1 cup buttermilk [OR as i did & preferred this year, milk + 1 tbsp lemon!]
+ 1 cup sugar
pour that into the pan
as it starts to immediately cook around the edges, pour in 1-2 cups of berries!
then bake for 30!
we top with whipped cream but it’s PERFECTION all by itself!
til next year, you glorious wild blackberries!!! well… unless we go down and find some more before they’re gone, but man they go quickly!!
