it’s hard to believe we’ve been in our house for more than 4.5 years, now!! gosh, rocco was just a tiny baby when we moved in here… and at that time we had so much work to do on the house, and sooo much life to figure out. on the front end, we had a long list of priorities that we had to take care of… but among the many long-term ideas i had in my head for our home, i knew that at some point i really wanted to start a garden!!
this year, we’ve finally gotten around to some things around this place that we weren’t able to prioritize before… a deck expansion… a new roof… a surprise laundry room!! and finally… oooooh, finally! some garden plans! steven went out one weekend and built me an appropriate area to plop my zucchini, peas, and carrots, and the little bunners have their very first sunflower patch growing right next to it! we’re starting small, but there’s room to add another tier right above it down the road if we want to after we see how this one does. [our house is tucked into a hill, which doesn’t offer a lot of flat space, but it makes me feel super cozy. i’ve always loved the idea of being creative with how we use the hillside!] so far, it has already grown like crazy, and it makes my heart so happy to go out and tend to it every day.
aaanyway! one afternoon, about two weeks ago, i told the kiddos that i was heading out to check on the plants and take photos of our baby garden area before it got bigger, so that we can look back at the end of the season and remember where we started. of course, wouldn’t you just know what happens when i say i’m going to take photos?! i end up with a bunch of eager camera clickers… and many, many, many sweet moments to look back on when i remember to unload my camera card! 🙂
…this. is. happiness. a season of little feet, little paws [well, big paws, but young paws is what i mean!], and little gardens. ♡
so far, i’ve got zucchini, sweetpeas, and carrots started down there… and gosh, all of it has already grown sooo much since we took these photos! heart eyes. i can’t wait for more! i’m obsessed. next up is flowers! i have baby cosmos growing, dahlia seeds on order from latvia, a spot i’m eyeing for hydrangeas that i’m NOT going to kill this time, and i really, really miss having roses.
ps. madd and i are obsessed with our overalls. first time i’ve had any since 5th grade!!! mine // hers
