i always miss lexington once fall hits. growing up, we spent every thanksgiving there with my grandparents, and switched off christmases between there and my dad’s side up north… in which case, we would still stop in lexington on the way!
things are a little different now that my grandmother, my bettyemom, has been living with alzheimers for so long now… but we still love our trips up there! my mom is so easy to travel with and we all love that time with her. and! baby luca was overdue for his very first visit. baby luca… oooh! baby luca was quite the spirited one!
santa at the nursing home!! and oh, my lu! i will say, he held out on tears longer than my first two babies did when they first met santa. [M first meeting santa // R first meeting santa] also, rocco was not quite feeling santa this year, either, which surprised me!! aaand naturally, maddalena was a christmas angel adorned in pink. <3
we’re all on the nice list! 😉
we crashed the PT room to visit with the sweetest silver lab that was training as a therapy dog! who can resist a pup handing out candy canes?
i just love hotel life with kiddos. every part of it is fun to them, which is fun to meeee!
one of my favorite stops is always hillenmyer christmas shop!! [gosh, this visit when M was 3 and R was a teeny baby! and ahh, another time when R was just a few months older than L!]
we were a little late for the full experience this year, but it was still gorgeous, as always!! i loved the dried hydrangeas in the christmas trees. if only i hadn’t had to spend the entire visit keeping my adorably crazy [and loud!] baby out of the fire!
just… so determined, that baby boy…
i don’t know that i’ve ever had a child scream in public places like he’s willing to!? but he’s squishy and delicious, so all is forgiven! next up… homebound! with a pit stop in amish country for our favorite donuts and some bargain hunting…
…as you can see, luca was heavily invested in this fantastic deal on post-it notes. and i mean, i cringe, cringe!! at this public floor touching! but you see… it was that or a screaming one year old. as if i weren’t already a hair self-conscious about my sequined sweater and blingy sunglasses, you know?! i just wanted the amish to note that we were a warm and peaceful circus at heart. but they are the sweetest and really, nobody batted an eye. also… donuts!
and! that was that! a solid 36 visiting my bettyemom! and introducing her to lu-bunny!! and, i should add, when she saw luca she said, “new baby?” which is crazy because she doesn’t really speak. but babies bring out something in her every. single. time! and before we left, she even said i love you. as i was actually trying to get luca to “say” i love you to her. you know, i have a piece of stationery that she gave me a while back that she wrote i love you really big on in her pretty handwriting, and i’m so glad i still have it.
so there it is. 🙂 til next year, lex!!

Oh my word how sweet! To hear her say that must have been such a moment! I can’t even! And as a mom of a boy who loves public tantrums I feel you friend. Unfortunately Dom still continues to do them…. at five.
