oh my goodness! i’ve had this little time capsule of photos sitting riiight on my computer desktop for 4 whole years now!! we moved into our current home in november of 2015. rocco was just 4 months old and maddalena was 3! i will say, the last 4 years have had a whole bunch of weird, good, hard, sweet, sour, growth, stunted growth, blessings, big, little, and aaaaaall that! and now, this is just such a fun flashback. a walk down memory lane! and for the sake of proper documentation…
HOW TO MOVE! part two…
step 7: close on your house! CHEERS!!! finalize your paint colors, and make a tent with the old left-behind curtains. wow. i remember walking into the emptied house, overwhelmed with all we had to do. overwhelmed? no. panicked. that’s a better word! good thing we had prosecco. 😉
step 8: admire the miracles of PAINT!!! holy transformations. paint changes everything!
step 9: put your family members to work. my dad did SOOOO MUUUUCH for us in this house! he hung lights and rewired outlets and all sorts of things. he’s a good man!!!
step 10: celebrate the little things. new rugs!! new lights!! new knobs!! hallelujah!
step 11: wake up, it’s MOVING DAY!! okay, to be honest… here’s what happened: the night before moving day, i went to the new house, put baby rocco down for a nap in his pack & play, and shop-vacced out the most heinous, unfinished, terrifying storage closet. i did not want to do it. i solidly did not. but when it came down to it, i had no choice. i think steven was out of town for work that day or something? and i really was not moving into the house until that closet was cleared. i mean, i was so burdened by this closet! i finally just finally dove straight in. and while it felt good to suck out all the dust and mold and old nails and rat poison [????], it pushed my exhausted, anxious, post-baby hormonal body over. the. edge. after i finished, i headed back to the farm where maddalena was and showered off right away before heading back to our packed-up house. but the next morning, i woke up feeling horrible. absolutely horrible. i got out of bed and threw up! whaaaaat?! i got right back in bed and literally couldn’t get back out. finally, steven told me the movers were literally on their way… so, if i could make it over to the farm, just pack up the kids and pup and skedaddle. which was actually the best decision ever!! because i had help with the babes and we were out of the way of steven and the movers. my mother-in-law brought me all the homeopathy that i needed, and by the time they were loaded up and delivering stuff to the new house, i was good to go over and direct! 😉
step 12: make sure the yard is properly torn up by machinery! haha. while furniture was going in the house, we had the niiiiicest company out working on drainage around our house, and fixing up the entire crawl space. we literally have gotten so many compliments on our crawl space since they encapsulated it and turned it into arendelle! ha! it’s all white!! anyway, highly recommend, so if you have any drainage/foundation issues around the area, ask me who we used and i’ll share! 🙂
step 13: give your sister the baby. until it’s nursing time! then snuggle in his new room. <3
step 14: EAT PIZZA
step 15: peep out at the pretty farm views! naturally, this was before a certain someone installed a bajillion dinosaurs on his land. [massive eye roll]
step 16: enjoy the sweetest little ones in the sweetest little bedrooms
step 17: give one final cleaning and goodbye to your old house!!! i was so ready for this… but that last visit was still really hard.
step 18: buy a billion spindles and have a new bannister made! SO much better!!!
step 19: take a nap on the floor, because you don’t have a couch.
step 20: get a couch!! we went on black friday and picked one out! oh, but it wasn’t on sale. it just happened to be black friday.
step 21: don’t forget the pup!!! minnie stayed a while at the farm until we were good and ready for her. oh, little minnie winnie!!
step 22: fresh stain on the stairs and bannister, yes please!! next up, some paint on those spindles…
step 23 & beyond: keep at the eternal to-do list!! oh, boy. we did sooo much to get moved in here, and we’ve continued to nest and love this house so much!
it’s funny looking back at these early snippets, because in some ways, it doesn’t feel like all that long ago! but at the same time, it really does. we are so at home here now. the bigger babes have had their little rooms evolve and grow with them over 4 years, and now baby luca is growing into his. and at the same time, there are a handful of things we just still haven’t done, either! because 4 years can go by in a flash, and somehow there is still 80s lighting in some closets and things like that. ha! but anyway. time flies! i’m sure glad to be where we are now!
