oooooh. MAN. i totally feel like we were finally initiated into the boy parent club this last weekend! a moment i was dreading since day 1 of life with a little boy, mind you…
we had to run rocco in on saturday afternoon for a sudden and questionable head gash… poor baby!! i mean, really, out of all the sharp corners and hard surfaces we regularly worry about, it was the silly laminate floor that did him in! he was playing with his sissy and just smacked the floor that hard. when i picked him up, i thought he was just upset and sore somewhere, but then there was the blood! the kind that makes you go… uh oh. WHERE IS THAT COMING FROM. so, my parents and brother came right over and took a look, at which point we decided they’d take maddalena [who was more upset than anyone, because she’s a 5 year old mini-mommy!] while the rest of us headed out for medical treatment! no makeup, bloody clothes, and all…
fortunately, thaaaank gooooodness, there were zero signs of concussion and all he required were… GULP… staples. staples right in the back of his head!
now, blood doesn’t get me. i’m fine with blood as long as it’s not flowing at a dangerous rate… but i’ve never had a broken bone or stitches, myself, and definitely never considered intentionally placing staples in my body! so, this thought had me cringing. like, ew ew ew ew ew, no. i just had zero gauge for how gross or traumatizing it would or wouldn’t be. i was picturing rocco having a meltdown, me about to pass out, everyone crying…
but rocco did SO GREAT!! he seriously didn’t even flinch. they numbed it a bit first [topically, then a shot of lidocaine], then they rinsed it out, then staples! he just kept on watching his peppa pig in steven’s lap as they got him all fixed up, and next thing you know he was ready for his promised goodies! a lollipop and pinwheel from the emergency clinic, followed by a big scoop of ice cream from baskin robbins. 🙂
…seriously, once we were done, he was back to his normal self! didn’t miss a beat, that boy. we are SO PROUD. i mean, i hope he’s always that cool and tough. 🙂
his little booboo is now looking soooo good after just a few days of ointment and healing… so, here’s hoping the removal on friday is just as easy! because… i’ll be flying solo for that one. bleh!
we love you, rocco! you little stapled up studmuffin!!

Staples freaks me out too!! Just the thought!! Gives me shivers. I am so sorry you had to do this I know it isn’t easy or fun and it’s always so so so much harder on the parents than the littles I think!! They are so tough and resilient. God love them! Hope Friday goes well!!! I’ll be thinking of you guys!

seriously, the thought of staples terrified me!! but apparently they are way easier than stitches! i had no idea!! popping them out was no big deal, either. CRAZY!!

Oh boy!!! I just had my second boy (literally last night!) and my first has already has his fair share of falls, bumps, bruises and cuts, and I am just waiting for the first stitches, staples or broken bones and dreading it. You look great for being in urgent care and splattered with blood! And Rocco is a champ!
