there have been too many times in the last 6 months that i’ve stood in my family’s little barn, all dusty and full of old dirty tack, dried-out leather, and so many once-necessary items that haven’t been used in years… and pictured myself at 9 years old, standing in that same barn, wishing and dreaming of one day having those things and the horse to go with them. it’s bittersweet to see how quickly a beloved chapter could come and go, but that’s life, right? when it’s good, you have a lot to lose!
but anyway! my mom did an amazing job cleaning out the little barn last week and discovered a cleverly tucked little bird’s nest in doing so! you know, since we also no longer have any barn kitties to prevent such little nestlers. so, when we decided on monday, memorial day, that it was the perfect time to go down and play with our boy, comet… we went to load up the golf cart with brushes, and hooow fun it was to see brand new tiny little lives cuddling beneath a dirty old saddle!! maybe it’s not the ideal place for a baby finch home, but… how could you not smile!
one… two… three… four… five tiny mouths?!! SO SWEET!! and when my mom would whistle they would all open up in hopes of a wormy little lunch!
maddalena was in absolute heaven getting to love on comet! and once rocco was up from his nap, it was fun to let him play, too. no horse is as laid back as casey was, so it’s an adjustment for madd, especially… but comet is the sweetest lovemuffin, and we adore him so! also, those silhouette captures kind of get me extra since i have some just like those of maddalena with casey when she was just about rocco’s age. <3

it makes me so happy to share the experience with them!! and hilarious to see how m’s whole heart was for horses at such an early age… while rocco’s thought process is interrupted every 4 seconds by a tractor or fan or machine of some sort! either way, barn life is good life, i say. 🙂
