first of all, let’s talk for a sec about no-reason gifts that best friends get you when they GET you… validation via tea towel! thanks, maggie! i swear, you and coffee and jesus and my mom… in no particular order. ;)sidenote: oat bites are for every occasion! this time i made them with pumpkin and coconut sugar!!
anyway… halloween 2016!!
now, allow me to tell the tale of sea love! sea love that moved to dry land, of course, when a young mermaid grew legs and married a pirate. ready to settle down and pursue a safer lifestyle, however, that pirate then retired, scheduled regular hair cuts, and invested his plunderings responsibly. then, naturally, along came their two adorable baby pi-maids! the young merlady has not quite grown her land-legs yet. it can be tough being a mixed species family in the suburbs, but they’re doing just fine…

sometimes you just put on your ole pirate duds and relive your glory days. for the kids! for the kids.

mer-hair!

just a peaceful moment between mermother and merdaughter.

livin’ the dream.
okay, fine, that story’s actually about us. totally caught me! so, then it dawned on us that we could just dress as regular humans, and so we did [good call there, “mer-mom.” i seriously el-oh-el every time i look at my last minute mer-attempt! every. time!]. and we took those little chillen-babies to trick or treat with friends… which was perfect! because this halloween marked our 8 year super-official friendiversary from the time we were like, “we like you, let’s be bff” over adult beverages and a game called fish bowl. we’ve since doubled our crew size! i love it!

…and they lived happily ever after. with a bucket full of candy. and pa-lenty of time to plan for next year’s halloween in hopes that zero of the children will have 3-day fevers and costume options will be flowing and abundant!
ps. happy november 1st!!! it is both my birth month and a perfect day to be clothesless outside. this pleases me.
Oh I love the tale and I love the family! And the friends! We loved trick or treat if with our old neighbors and I miss it so very much! That's very special you guys keep doing it! And hey I love these costumes!
