okay, i just have to note that my little african violet plant is the happiest that a plant could possibly be right now! all those blooms?! i’m in love! she lives in the corner behind our kitchen sink, which gets sunlight from two different angles… aaand it’s basically plant magic right there!!! also, i recently gave her a bigger pot, not knowing how well she’d take to it, [you have to water african violets from the bottom, so they are a little picky, i’d say!] and when i saw her bursting with blossoms this past week i was so excited. plant babies are so rewarding!!
SO! yesterday was kind of a temperate day for around here. it wasn’t hot as fire blazes… and i figure this is hurricane hermine’s doing? anyway! i decided it was the day to dig a tiiiiny little porch-side herb garden! i’ve had a few things potted that just needed to go in the ground, so… we gave it a go!
[then we went over to the farm, having hardly spoken to my mother all day… which is odd, we typically talk like, constantly! aaaaand guess what she had been doing? digging a porch-side herb garden. haha. like mother like daughter!!]
my mommy dearest gave me some oregano from her original herb garden last night, so this morning the little bunnies and i got outside early and planted that, as well…
ta-da!! lavender // oregano // rosemary // basil!
these are the very first things we’ve planted in our new yard!! it’s taken us waaaay too long get started, if you ask me! we’re waiting on a landscaper [#whoistakingforever] to plant much, much bigger stuff for us, which will be so so exciting… but ooooh my gosh, my plant needs can not hold off any longer! so, a baby herb garden, it is!
i am totally not getting my hopes up for all of it, either, i promise… i didn’t even follow any kinds of spacing or special soil rules! haha. but i’m excited to see what survives [i do think the rosemary will do juuuuust fine!], what else i should try there, and finally let my little planties stretch their legs! i also have mint growing, but right now it’s inside in the magic corner by the african violets. 🙂 and i had parsley… but… it died.
if anyone has tips on what grows really well here in zone 7a, i’m all eyes and ears!!oh AND!!! i am so excited. i have been obsessed with vintage olive buckets ever since i first saw them on decorsteals, and have been waiting for them to come back… so when i saw them on there yesterday, eeee!! i pulled the trigger!!! i think they are running low on stock, but you can still snag one under “extended steals,” and if you want $5 off, you can use my referral link! [but make sure you make an account before you go to check out!]
sooo. plant update complete!! happy big, long weekend!!!

Here's to planting roots! I'm such a fan! I feel like one of the first things I want to change about a place involves greenery and roots. Looking good! I'm sure it'll work out great! But I've never tried planting herbs in the ground. Too cold up here….
