when we were looking at houses to move into, two of our biggest requests were 1. more natural light. gosh, our old house could get so depressing!! and 2. a happy, outdoorsy little place to have coffee in the morning and wine in the evening!
the first house we thought we really wanted had this aaaaMAZING screened-in porch situation right off the master bedroom and we were so bummed when we didn’t get that house. looking back, however, it was definitely not the right one for us for a lot of reasons we didn’t think about at the time! so, when we looked at this house [ironically just one street over!], we fell in love with the addition they had done of the sunroom! ahhh, yes, a sunroom, of course! what an idea!
it’s kind of a perfect space for us. the kids have a lot of room to play on the floor area, it leads right to the deck and the back yard, we use the table to play games, we can sit and sip our wine – just us or with friends – and we can see a lot of the yard for when maddalena wants to romp around out there! plus, if it’s too hot or too cold outside, we don’t have to feel too trapped indoors. we also have a great view of the little birdies and squirlies that love the neighbors’ back yard gardens and the rolling farmland that we so adore across the street!
also much appreciated is the fact that this room has required the very least in updating. we had the trim painted, changed out receptacles, and there are still some things left on our list, of course… but! we loved this room from the beginning. 🙂
[i’d been looking for the perfect wall clock & recently found ours at michael’s! // my favorite planters are from home depot // handmade you are my sunshine throw pillow – which i’m sooo beyond in love with!! – c/o with lavender & grace // coffee + end tables from havertys // antique brass tub from the antique store! i was head over heels when i saw that thing. it’s currently hiding some of m’s rotating footware 😉 // the lamp was also an antique store snag // of course i have a favorite quote on the wall 🙂 // comfy rockers inherited from in-laws, yay!! // oh! and the hello darling doormat i won from sugarboo & co. through my girl sarah’s instagram! // and ps. can i just say, the slipcovers on our old sofas drive. me. BANANAS. with their constant need to be tucked and straightened! but for the price, they aren’t the worst, either.]
okay, and i just have to highlight here hoooow absolutely much i love the you are my sunshine pillow that sweet bianca sent me from her gorgeous handmade shop, with lavender and grace!! i have always loved that song so much, as makes me think of two things i love the most: sunlight and my family… so, from the time i first came across it, i knew i needed it in our sunroom! is there a more appropriate theme for a sunroom, and, oh, i don’t know… the story of my entire life? 😉 plus, bianca and i have just emailed so much and connected on sooo many things, i mean, i just completely adore her, too. anyway, every time i walk in the room it is just making me so happy!
soooo!!
what we’ve done…
-had trim painted
-changed outlets & covers [thanks again, daddio!!]
-removed some hardware that was left behind
-caulked lines in the ceiling where ants were sneaking through
-shoved some plastic wrap into a hole i found in the corner because i’m a serious professional like that
still on the list…
-change out doorknobs for matching ones. i don’t even know why we haven’t done that yet! *update!* doorknobs are taken care of! yay!
-i really want to paint or replace the fans. we like them, functionally, because they have little remote controls, and they really help because the heat/AC does not run to this room… it has a separate wall unit for air. but… with the rest of the room, i don’t like the look of them! it couldn’t be too tricky to just paint them white, though, right?
-when we first moved in and i was on a total get-er-done high, i fully believed that i was going to paint the bamboo blinds white as well. hahaaa, yeah right! but… i maybe wouldn’t hate it if we replaced them with white ones at some point. 🙂 although, i also don’t completely hate them right now since they pull together with some of the other warm + natural tones in the room, so that will wait!
[peeking in from the family room!]
and of course, the before and after!
[taken from the listing // my iphone]
so… come on over and sit with us? we’ll provide a beverage of your choosing! haha! xoxoxo

Lovely!! A house/room with lots of natural light is a good house/room indeed. And I actually like the bamboo blinds as is. I think it adds a warmth and nice contrast.
