[oh, i just LOVE them as daddy’s little assistants in their mini-daddy hard hats!!!]
last weekend, steven did the most terrific thing for us and built us a gate for our back deck so our little man wouldn’t faceplant off the deck stairs! YAY! and it’s not just any gate, of course… it’s a perfectly seamlessly desrceet sliding gate!! i tell you what, for someone who hasn’t historically gone building things just for fun, when that man of the household decides he’s going to do something, he really does it. i am still soooooo in love with the farm table he built for us a few years back! then he granted my wish of a matching coffee table top, and it is absolutely perfect. so, a gate! easy peasy. 🙂
it blows my mind, too, because as much as i’d love to be super-capable builder chick, myself… ugh. i mean, don’t wanna admit defeat. i love claiming that i can do stuff. i can shoot a gun! i have 4 wheel drive! i can handle it! but… building things? i’m just not sure it’s in the cards for me. damsel in distress, here!! please build my things, prince stevey!
and these projects, they always start with a trip to home depot, yes? iiiii loooove home depot normally. i didn’t as a child. but now? ahhhhh it’s a glorious kingdom of homeowner possibilities!!! plus, the garden center, always.
anyway, when maddalena was smaller, she was so so so easy to take anywhere. her rule remained the same: as long as she was in mommy’s arms, she was happy! however, this is generally not rocco’s rule. he wants to run, hit, push, grab, throw! so, fast forward to family HD trips these days with a child-sized [hungry] maddalena and the mini-man rocco…
oh my, my… remind me to bring my survival gear next time! we started deteriorating juuust a smidge too quickly. although, as long as you have your iphone, you’re pretty okay for a little bit, yes? so… i can’t help it. going back through these [as i attempt to clear space on my iphone for the 975th time!] i’ve been so entertained. for one, because every time we go in home depot, people see rocco’s round blue eyes and blonde curls and apparently assume he’s a girl! haha. which i promise i don’t take offense to. it’s confusing now that everyone dresses their little ones so darn gender-neutrally. but CLEARLY the girls in our family wear pink lips and lacey things! hello! 😉
oh, yeah. let me just push this ginormous cart of wood, here. don’t you worry, bud! we know you’re manly! 😉
[and okay, the craziest thing: a commercial just came on NPT – as the bunbuns play to the tune of dinosaur train – about the difference between boys and girls, testosterone and estrogen. ha!! aaaamen!]

He's so handsome how could anyone confuse his majesty for a lady? What a great project though he has completed! It's just so necessary! We love having deck gates because it just gives me a sense of safety for these little ones!

Sliding!? That is amazing. I think he and Cam would get along well!!
I don't know how your sweet little girl is already 4 (!!???) but happy birthday to her and happiest four years to you! I nearly cried reading what you wrote because that's just how I feel about my Gracie girl:)
