so, i’m gonna be really cool and stuff about this because it’s whatever.
JUUUST KIDDING.
here is my confession: i am a space nerd wannabe. i can do approximately zero maths. i have shed tears over many a science homework. i love glitter and gold and fluffy animals and art and literature! buuut… i have somehow watched multiple livestreams of nasa shuttle launches. at 4am. i once made steven rent and watch a documentary on the international space station with me. then there was the one time i had a space princess birthday party. and! one year, we even got to witness a launch right from our own beach! which was just ridiculously awesome. so, i don’t know. maybe it was zenon, girl of the 21st century who first inspired me? 😉 sometimes i really don’t know where i get my obsessive kicks.
anyway! our local book store down in florida always has really neat authors stopping in on their book tours. and when we heard that one of them was going to be… buzz aldrin?! like, THE buzz aldrin… commander of apollo 11! first ever moon pioneer! from history! oh, we were so going.
as it turns out, he has a new book out, no dream is too high, that he signed for us and i can’t wait to read… but he also has a selection of children’s books that we picked up, as well! so, the babes got some special little souvenirs to cherish one day when they realize they met one of the very first men to ever set foot on the moon.
also! while maddalena was perhaps a smidge intimidated by her big astronaut encounter once it finally rolled around, i’m pretty sure he and rocco man had a pretty major connection going…
…yep, wait for it…
ha!!!!! this really nice guy from mexico who had his own official nasa jacket and everything took this on his phone and shared it with us because it was so sweet of him reaching out to rocco. 🙂 my eyes are doing silly things, buuut i’ll still be printing 800 copies for the baby book.
the natural next event is tiny firetruck driving, which was also a hit!!
…and, voila! all sorts of space princess and mom dreams coming true all at once.
before we left the book store, this adorable, sweet, very elderly-seeming lady passed by and excitedly said, “he let me touch him! now i have touched the moon!” and it was just too cute. she had to have been somewhere near my age when she watched on tv as buzz aldrin and neil armstrong first set foot onto the moon. i can’t imagine!

I love this so much and married a space nerd myself. We have all the launch dates in our calendar to watch from the backyard! Where is this magical Florida bookstore I need to check out?! And a Zenon reference? I love you, Bee Bee!

Okay okay okay. So. Space nerd ladies unite okay!? I. Was. Obsessed. With the movie Space Camp. Have you seen it???? But I LOATHE science. Math. Ick. Matt is a nerd and has this app Sky Guide? It alerts you whenever the ISS flies over head and we all run out and watch it go over. Just did it Friday night actually. The world is so big and amazing and we are so so small. And Buzz!!! Touching the moon is right! What a great experience for you guys and those kiddos! They don't even know it yet but WOW! What a dream.
