so, when maddalena and i met my parents out for early voting a week or so ago, it was a really beautiful fall day out, and after we voted we kind of stood around outside for a little bit before getting in our cars… when suuuuddenly, we were distracted by, 1. a really old log cabin, and 2. kittens!
isn’t it just so cute?! the belle vue cabin was built in 1797 by the ancestors of our favorite antique shop owners, i believe! hey hey! i used to actually have a beautiful drawing by someone else of this little cabin when i was younger, and i’m not sure what happened to it. anyway, it just looked so cozy tucked into the fall trees, and it’s crazy to me to think of my tiny two year old sitting so innocently on something so historic. 🙂 i’m pretty sure it was originally built pretty near where the farm is, and i just looooove thinking about all the life that went on long before ours. people settling in the wilderness, establishing nashville, so that we could all one day drive around in our cars and take pics of a jillion things with our futurey phone-screens!
and then… there were kittens!
…they were coming out of the little home they’d made for themselves inside the little red caboose that lives at that park. i’m pretty sure this was the first time maddalena had ever gotten to play with a kitten, and she was delighted, and i was melting! there was a boy kitten and a girl kitten, but the girl kitten was super shy and stayed mostly inside her caboose home. also, they had collars, so i guess everyone else already knows that they’re there, but we were so surprised to see them pop out!
anyway, i had some maaajor kitten and cabin fever happening this afternoon. kitten fever as in… i want to go adopt a bunch of kittens. and cabin fever as in… i want to build a log cabin. and live there. and darn all our socks and heat cauldrons of water over the fire and make stews and take in strange weary travelers over the winter!
anyway, it was such a pretty, american afternoon! and can you just imagine how cozy thanksgiving would be with a fire burning inside the log cabin your family built to house you and your visitors and your kittens?! that would be the coziest. let’s do it. or… let’s just live in our regular houses because it’s 2014. 😉 [okay, i don’t really want to live without the conveniences of my iphone and such, but wouldn’t a simpler time just be really nice every now and then? i think so!]

I blame all these thoughts solely on Jamie and Claire. Because I have been having them as well. When we were in Mystic I would do the math in my head… Were they in America yet when this was built? So on and so forth as if they are real people. And that's just the sign of a really good book to me. I'm so immersed in their world I think of it often. But yes. Must have my iPhone. And Chapstick. Why did she not bring back Chapstick? 😉

There is something romantically intriguing about dialing back the conveniences of today. Cuddling in front of a fire with some kittens would be wonderful. That little cabin is absolutely charming!
…But I do love having my iPhone ready to snap photos of my little boy when he does something that cracks me up or is super adorable. And having a heater in the house is also nice… 😉

haha agreed!!! iphone all the way! and i can't imagine how cold an unheated cabin would get!!! we have a heater, after all, and i am still fa-reeeezing!
