hey hey! i have a little something to share with my parent friends today! because one thing that has just really turned my stomach to knots a few too many times this summer, unfortunately, has been hearing news reports of babies that have been forgotten and left to suffer inside of hot cars. gosh. that’s heavy, i know! but it happens… and hearing those stories now that i’m a parent? well, it breaks my heart to look at my baby girl and picture children just like her stuck and scared and crying in a car simply because their parents… well… forgot.
apparently, about 38 kids die in hot cars per year. can you even imagine?! i cannot begin to fathom the horror! and even though it feels easy for me, right now, to remember my one toddler as she requests frozen songs and only frozen songs for the duration of each and every car trip 😉 …well sometimes she’s quietly sleeping! and one day she’ll have siblings! which equals me with fewer brain cells! less sleep! not enough coffee! probably depending a little too much on coffee! and things get crazy, we all know they do.
so, anyway, nobody plans on being the parent that forgets about their baby, which is what lead a great friend of the family over here to develop an app called remember the kids. it’s a really easy and straightforward concept for anyone and everyone juggling parenting with the rigors and distractions of a busy daily life. you simply run the app on your iphone [it works even in the background], and it automatically detects your car’s movement through the gps functionality and goes into “driving mode.” then once it feels your car stop for a certain period of time, it pushes a notification out that simply asks, “did you remember the kids?” and that’s it! there it is.
[a true mom iphone, maddalena has chewed on my case and pulled the rubber off of the front!]
is that brilliant, or is that brilliant? and can you imagine if just one child was spared because their mom or dad or nanny used the app? that is the hope of the app’s founder, cody king, and i am totally thrilled to support the endeavor in hopes that we will indeed hear fewer and fewer of those tragic car stories in the coming summers!
remember the kids is $1.99 in the app store, and 3% of all proceeds go to other organizations for driving awareness! check it out, and maybe snag it for all your baby-drivin’ peeps. 🙂
