[a little summer so far!]
i can’t believe it’s june already! this is my very favorite time of year. it’s not quite summer solstice yet, so the days are still getting longer… but the heat is setting in, the sun is keeping my skin warm!
what is it exactly about summer that’s just so sweet? it’s such a sentimental season to me, and i’ve always felt so nostalgic for the summers of my life. there’s something about the summertime that makes everything just seem more romantic. more exciting. more passionate. more carefree. all my summer memories seem to be permanently cast in this warm, sunsetty hue, and i love it. i just love it.
maybe it’s because nights are later. and colors are brighter. smells are sweeter, and smiles are bigger. ideas come faster. laughs are louder. feet are bare, skin is golden! perhaps it’s the days filled with sunbeams and the nights dotted with fireflies. it’s probably the slightly faster drives down sunny open roads, and the country music playing on my radio [this is nashville ;)]. it’s the sound of sprinklers and lawn mowers and children playing. it’s the feeling of not being trapped indoors, and well, not being trapped in layers of clothes. hallelujah!
the world feels so alive to me in the summertime, and i feel so myself… just me at any age. breathing in the warm summer air, i often feel like i could be the 12 year old out with her horse. the 14 year old walking down the street barefoot with neighbor friends. the 16 year old stargazing with her boyfriend all snuggled in blankets. the 20 year home for the summer having late night talks on the porch. or the 24 year old accidentally back home for one more summer [said boyfriend-turned-husband in tow! not the worst part of the flood!]! yep, i’m pretty sure all my favorite mes are summer mes.
and there are things i miss about my summers past, too, things i miss so much… but sitting outside as the sun goes down on a balmy summer’s eve, my senses tend to fill with memories as warm and bright as the sunset, and i know those times are still with me, and we’ve got many more great summers to come. i’m so excited for these upcoming summers, making memories full of little wet footprints that grow bigger by the year! and little wet pawprints, too, as always. [we can’t forget minnie and her pool-floating ways!]
ahhh, summertime. you have my heart. forever and ever, amen.

They are wonderfully aren't they those summers? And Maddo's little lounge chair is addddddorable.
i am such a sappy summertime lover 😉 and the chairs! there are two in a set and they came from costco and i just die over them!
what a lovely note to summer! i wish i felt the same way about it being a floridian. i need to either be up north for the summer or by the water. i vote by the water 🙂
haha yes we get four full seasons here, which makes me really appreciate our blazing hot summers! but the water is perfection, too, for sure!
