i have aaalways had a total thing for beauty products. i love scanning beauty aisles for new products to test out, i love finding the glossiest lipglosses in the most perfect pinks! but… these days i keep my daily beauty routine pretty darn simple. plus, i feel like my options have narrowed significantly as to what i’m even willing to slather on and in my skin… you know, for the sake of not totally poisoning myself with who knows what! so, i do much less perusing in the grocery store beauty aisle now and much more browsing of the skin deep database. i feel like i’m always trying to find that beauty product balance between not too chemical-laden and not too expensive with an application process that fits nicely in my easy daily routine! and so, right now, theeese are my latest daily regimen obsessions…
1. clairsonic mia – i have used one of these suckers since christmas [thanks, in-laws!], and now i seriously feel like i don’t get my skin clean enough without it! plus it feels so good. sometimes i can’t resist doing it twice. it’s like a wiggly toothbrush for your face!
2. msm soap – so, msm is kinda my latest skin kick [it’s good for connective tissues!], and i am totally obsessed with this cleanser. i mean, maybe i’m crazy, but i would swear that i’ve seen improvements in the tone and texture of my skin since using this little bar! and i was pretty in love with my silver soap [def still love that one, too], so i feel like the msm soap must be something magical to make me share my soap love like that.
3. physicians formula super bb powder – i started using the super bb cream aaand loved it… so then i tried the super bb powder, aaand i love it, too! you can wear it over the cream, or just on its own. it goes on pretty smoothly and adds a nice finished look, i feel like! i’ve been impressed with the super bbs, i really have to say!
4. vinylux weekly top coat – pretty much obsessed with this top coat! okay, it is nail polish, so there’s absolutely nothing healthy going on here… but! it is, apparently, free of the big 5: formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, formaldehyde resin and camphor. and for being a decent topcoat, i was kind of and happily surprised! but anyway, i don’t typically keep my fingernails painted for long, so when i do paint them, this stuff totally helps keep the chips to a minimum there in that first glorious manicured week… and it gives such a glossy and profesh looking finish, i just want to paint a coat on everything i see. but also, i’ve recently come across a little list of some others i’d love to try, too! i mean, between babes and horses and all the hand washing i do, my manis, they need all the protection they can get.
5. supergoop! spf 30 lipfusion lip balm – this is my gooo toooo lip gloss for when i’m going with the natural look but still just really need some gloss. when you’re poolside, for example! perfect, it’s got that spf 30. or pretty much any time, because you need your go to clear gloss. you just do. plus, don’t even get me started on supergoop! amazing stuff, all of it.
6. tarte gifted amazonian clay smart mascara – oh. my gosh. the blossoming love story between me and this mascara! first of all, i’ve never, ever used any mascara aside from my trusty maybelline great lash from my very first mascara usage on… but then, all these years later, it really started to bother me that i was coating my poor lashies in junk, so i decided to try something better quality, and !!!! this is the stuff, right here. i can only assume that amazonian clay contains blessings and magical jungle dust because it spreads, it thickens, it does not make a mess, and it leaves my lashes soft and bendy all the while. and and! they say it’s “restorative,” oooh, and free of parabens, mineral oil, pthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, and gluten. so! downside: costs more dollars. but i’m seriously not that high maintenance, so i’ll not put a price limit on the preservation of my lashes’ youthfulness.

I'm very curious about this msm soap! I've never heard of it and if you love it this much then I might have to give it a try! Do you know if you can use while pregnant?
LifeofCharmings says
i would say there is absolutely no harm in using it while pregnant! i take it in pill form, too, and have read that you can take it as a supplement while pregnant, so i definitely wouldn't worry about using it to cleanse topically. i am sure there is all sorts of conflicting info out there, but from what i have read it is a great thing to use!

I really appreciate your write up on products. I refer to them often and unlike many blogs recently I feel like you are not trying to sell a product. (Even if you are compensated- I am not sure if you are or not- but the way you go about it is so much more organic.) I started reading blogs way before they were a product endorsement place and it has been interesting seeing some of my favorite blog turn into …well something else entirely. Point being. I think you balance everything so well on this little bloggy and I have often ordered items you recommended! (Example: My favorite leggings ever 🙂 )
Keep up the great work!!! Oh- and I want a clarisonic so BADLY!! wish list!
LifeofCharmings says
wow, thanks so much, laurel!! that really makes my day! i have written on one of my info pages that i use amazon affiliate links when i feel like it's appropriate, and considering hooooow much we order via amazon, that just makes sense to me! but i would make these lists even if that wasn't an option, and i would never put something one on of my beloved obsession lists that i wasn't truly truly using and loving and enjoying! because. i mean. i just get really obsessed with things and then i need an outlet! i figured, why not share?! so thank you so much for being sweet about it! i have to admit, i definitely get turned off when it seems like people are just trying to sell things aaall the time!

Totally agree with Laurel- she articulated it perfectly.

i'm sooo addicted to the skin deep website – love looking up any potential new products! thanks for the info on the soap and mascara. i'm still looking for my go-to for both of these (when you go natural, i feel like it takes a little extra time to find that perfect product) so maybe these will be my winners!
LifeofCharmings says
that web site has been the best thing ever, hasn't it!! and i totally feel like things like soap and eye makeup are two things i am always keeping an eye out for… totally takes forever to find the perfect natural [or as close to natural as you can reasonably come] solution!

I have a Clarisonic on my birthday wishlist, I need one! I have heard great things about the Supergoop line, especially the CC cream.
LifeofCharmings says
supergoop is fabulous! i have used the spray on spf 50 sunscreen on my baby girl since last year and she has not had a hint of sunburn! i have wanted to try the CC cream, too! it's in the top-rated according to EWG on the skin deep web site, and i love that!

Maybe this is TMI(?) but what deodorant and toothpaste do you use? I'm really wanting to go all natural with both of these things and I'm just not sure where to start. Any recommendations would be extremely welcome!
LifeofCharmings says
for deoderant i use jason tea tree deoderant right now because it's in the natural section at my grocery store and it works really well for me!! when i switched, i was switching from using straight up aluminum-infused anti-persperant, which, you know, they say may lead to breast cancer. once i got paranoid about that i just really wanted to get the aluminum out of my pits, haha! so i haven't tested out MUCH but every other natural deo i have tried i've kinda hated, and i love the jason. and for toothpaste i have used toms fluoride free, but when i can't find that one i have been just buying whichever other fluoride free toothpaste i can find at the grocery. i think kiss my face is actually the brand i have now. dentists will say otherwise, but i am pretty sure we have enough fluoride in our water system to not add extra to our teeth! but to give my teeth a break, i have also used baking soda and water. i am also wanting to try oil pulling with coconut oil, because i have heard great things about that! and i also found this recipe for toothpaste recently that i thought was interesting! http://wellnessmama.com/2500/homemade-remineralizing-toothpaste-recipe/

Okay…. I think I'm going to treat myself to a Clairsonic. I keep hearing such fabulous things about them!
I want to try that mascara too. My lashes are very light so I NEED mascara to look even the slightest bit not washed out. And I don't like all the chemically stuff in the reg tubes.

I love these lists you do 🙂 Supergoop is the best! I love that lip balm, and I recently started using their City Serum every day as moisturizer and really like that too. Do you have the EWG Skin Deep app on your phone? It has come in really handy while I'm out shopping in case I want to look up products. You can scan the barcode with your phone and it'll look it up for you!
Hope you guys are doing great!

I've been so once the fence about getting a Clarisonic – I just haven't been sure if they're worth it. But what you described is kinda what I've been imagining. So glad you could confirm it for me! Amazon, here I come.

I am obsessed with my Mia too – same color even!
