it’s kind of weird having grown-up birthdays on regular normal weekdays, isn’t it? it is a little… but i have three little rules that i follow on my birthdays, and they pretty much guarantee happiness:
1. wear something pink
2. sparkle your fingernails
3. treat yourself to something, guilt-free!
so, i made sure to include my birthday things in my day of two-six. the sun was bright and pretty. husb left me a sweet morning note to wake up to. m & i went and picked up a little gigi’s cupcake for me to indulge in – they even included a birthday candle! and then we visited the one who gave me a birthday [i am quite honored to have been the one to give such a wonderful woman the title of mom 26 whole years ago!]. that evening, we devoured some of our favorite italian food that steven picked up after work, all special-like for my birthday dinner, and then he surprised me with a new pair of shoes that i’ve wanted for so long [which have hardly left my feet since i tried them on and discovered that they fit like magic gloves and feel like walking on clouds], and of course, as a bonus, we watched the lighting of the giant rockefeller tree!
pretty happy for a wednesday birthday, right? one of my least favorite birthdays was a tuesday. i remember that. i think it was age 20. and one of my ultimate favorite birthdays was 21 [which, ahem, i believe i may have referenced not too long ago]. next year, i’m pretty sure my birthday is on thanksgiving, which hasn’t happened since i was 16 [i remember feeling semi-unspecial that day, until a boy named steven bishop called and said he wanted to come visit me. we were still in crush phase then]. so that should be interesting!
well, until next year, brittany’s birthday! but don’t feel like you have to come back too soon. you are the age fairy, and i’m not really as into those as i once was. the grim reaper fairy, that’s basically what you are. but still! good times!
[and also, thank you, friends, for all the birthday wishes via the many avenues of the internet!]
