oh, rome! rome was such a vibrant whirlwind of fun and beauty and history and people and life! our four days there were fast-paced and exciting and we absolutely loved every bit of it. even if we were a little exhausted. loved.
when we first arrived at our hotel, hotel giolli, around 11am, we immediately seeked out the most necessary items from the nearest cafe [macchiato, please! and thank you to my sweet bloggy friend & rome expert, rachel, for making sure we knew exactly what coffee to order! she is so awesome like that], and started our adventuring. the first day was a little rainy and we were sleepyheads… so we explored a little, bought an umbrella off of one of the millions of street guys selling them, ate dinner near the trevi fountain at il chianti [which turned out to be a favorite!], and very happily crashed for the night. when we woke up the next morning, we headed for the spanish steps, window shopped in all glorious designer store windows, and went to see the pantheon… how. cool. is the pantheon! it’s one of the best preserved ancient buildings in rome and oh so beautiful. we were in awe. all the old structures in rome were particularly fun for steven to see, since he works in the construction industry. it’s pretty crazy to try and imagine these things being built centuries ago and still standing today! and i wish i had known before going in that the artist, raphael, and some old italian royals are buried there, but i guess i didn’t pay attention because i didn’t know until after. so then, naturally, we finished our day two with dinner and gelato… and we said to each other, “can you believe we still have two more days here?!” oh, but it all went by so quickly…
