[more from our beach trip]
[dad & steven down in the pool after a morning beach run]
[18 week mark!]
[this walkway to the beach was named for our grandfather after he died. i think it makes us all really happy :)]
some things we learned last week at the beach:
- at this stage, it seems that baby bellies have a way of looking bigger IN clothes, rather than out of them… like out of them, as in swim suits. apparently, clothes really highlight even the smallest of bumps.
- and oh, what a nice change it was to not have to squeeze into real clothing so much! i feel so awkward with clothes right now. honestly, i’m glad i’m going to be ginorm through the summer instead of having to squeeze into winter layers for months. i just don’t see the winter option going so well.
- and… getting sun on my back is going to turn into a serious challenge pretttty darn soon. […challenge accepted!]
- husband read and enjoyed a whole big ole fiction book on our trip! and to think he thought he preferred non-fiction. i loved seeing him absorbed like that. meanwhile, i hardly read a page. and then my kindle broke. on its own. i don’t even know why.
- golfball-sized hail does not care if you’re sunning happily on the beach, it will put holes in your siding at home whenever it wants to. oh well. so we came home to hail holes. at least we weren’t actually there for the big, ugly storm that did that. [my poor brother was in town from college, though, caring for all the animals while we were away and had to hide from tornadoes in the closet with the pups as the rest of us sunbathed in safety. bless his heart!]
- cuccidati. know what that is? we didn’t. apparently it’s a sicilian fig cookie, which we learned from listening in on a very loud conversation by some elderly northerners sitting behind us at dinner one night. lady said in her super new yorkish accent, “i got cuccidati in a can!” and then we all pulled out our phones and googled it. a fig cookie, huh. we had no idea! i feel like we should’ve known that, italian heritage and all… but we cannoli in this family, we don’t really cuccidati. but good to know!
- next visit to the beach, we’ll have a wee one in tow! oh my g. i can’t wait for that. tiny swim suits? i mean, really. tiny swim suits.

Haha, my friend is pregnant and she says the same thing about clothes. It looks like such a wonderful trip. I wish I was on a beach somewhere.
Challenge accepted- Bahaha!

so exciting that you have a little on on the way! I know what you mean about feeling like clothes show your bump to fast! Although i felt like I looked more like I had a beer belly than a baby belly forever! I was so glad when it finally popped out and it was obvious there was a baby in there 🙂
Wish I was on that beach right about now…
