we finally made it out to see our housey around 8 am yesterday morning. what we found was a little bit more shocking than we had even anticipated! everything was shuffled around. even the fridge was toppled over. i couldn’t manage to get the office door open without kicking it in, there was so much on the floor. it was really hard to grasp, seeing everything you own and love covered in nasty contaminated sewagey muddy poopy river water.. and i won’t even mention the smell. [note: our carpet is not brown.]
and then.. it was time for cleanup.
and yes, i realize we look freakishly happy for a homeless couple, but we are truly touched by the amount of love and support we’ve had over the past few days. yesterday was a big day. the hardest, probably.. but we had so much incredible support! some of steven’s coworkers came out and did an amazing job doing man stuff like furniture moving.. and demolition. other wonderful bffs took home salvaged loads of laundry and dishes to clean, while more boys joined to work at all the big man stuff. my fabulous parents have slaved away with us, as well, despite their own flood damage. and here’s what this morning looked like…
home sweet home! we are so blessed and encouraged through all this, even though there is an overwhelming amount of work and cleaning to be done and most of our belongings are lost. [yes, including my beloved computer. fingers crossed for hard drive recovery!] we have incredible friends. incredible families. and incredible people that we don’t even know. our community is really pulling together and it’s beautiful! next step: a couple weeks of drying the house. more laundry. furniture scrubbing. and who knows what else. what a crazy experience this is!
[also, check out maggie & matt’s flood pics on their bloggy.]
[and more nashville flood pics here.. i love this city. hate to see it like this.]
